I was recently invited to Vapiano’s Veggies After Dark – a wonderful event showcasing the restaurant’s delicious vegan + vegetarian dishes.
As we walked up the stairs of Vapiano to where the Veggies After Dark event was held, I wondered what the vegan + vegetarian options would be like. Going off my previous experience of vegan options at restaurants, I was slightly apprehensive about whether the food would be full of flavour or if it would be simply salad and bread. But my worries were wrong. So, so wrong.
After meeting a few fellow Brisbane vegetarian + vegan bloggers and Instagrammers, the tables were filled with vibrant, beautiful dishes. For starters we enjoyed a bruschetta of toasted ciabatta, extra virgin olive oil + garlic marinated tomatoes. How something so simple can taste so delicious, I do not know.
As soon as the bruschetta had disappeared and fired our appetites, the lovely staff brought out a feast of vegan pasta dishes. We were in awe. Never have I seen vegan authentic Italian food look this good. We tucked in to the pastas — including a spicy Arriabbata, garlic chilli Aglio E Olio spaghetti, Ratatouille veggie pasta, the classic tomato Pomodoro, and a deliciously creamy risotto.
Just as we thought we couldn’t fit anything else in, two vegan pizzas arrived and we couldn’t refuse. The pizzas were fresh with a perfectly thin based and packed with flavour. The Verdure pizza was my favourite – topped with grilled vegetables on a herby tomato base.
Rian and I had a wonderful evening filled with mouthwatering food and the excitement of meeting like-minded people. To top the evening off, upon leaving we were given an armful of goodies: a Goodness Me Box, freshly made Vapiano pasta, and another bag with skin care, a phone case + a shopping bag.
Here is a vlog I made from our day and time at the Vapiano event:
