There’s nothing quite like taking off your makeup, bra and day clothes, changing into your comfies and jumping into a soft, cozy bed. You might like to read, listen to music, watch your favourite TV show or meditate. Having a cozy bedroom is a great place to unwind and reset, but often our bedrooms feel too loud, dark and cluttered. So here are my top 5 tips on how to make your bedroom cozy, inspiring and bright.
Invest in plain, soft bedlinen
To make your bedroom a space of relaxation, peace and comfort, rather than choosing loud, colourful or patterned bed linen, opt for plain bedlinen that is light in colour and weight, as well as soft. White, grey, sand or dusty pinks are beautiful shades to create a feeling of coziness and warmth. The beautiful sheets pictured are the Maison bedlinen by Aura.
Let the light in
A bright, sunlit room makes a room seem bigger, not to mention inspiring and energising. The sun’s light streaming through a window warms us and the room we’re in, so replace those dark, thick curtains with white or lightly coloured curtains. It might take a little time to get used to but you will notice straightaway how much brighter and more comforting your room will feel.
Keep it simple
Clutter can often make a room feel smaller and gloomier. Of course that doesn’t mean you have to remove everything from your room, just start with the most obvious areas of clutter; Put all the things that you don’t need on your bedside table in a box under the bed or even in a paper bag, like this be-poles Le Sac en papier. Don’t overload your bed with pillows and your walls with tons of posters. Lastly, give your wardrobe a tidy and clear the floor from loose cords, bags, shoes and clothes (things I am definitely guilty of leaving around).
Burn scented candles
Burning scented candles not only create a beautiful, warm and cozy atmosphere, but also makes your room smell incredible. There are so many options to choose from when it comes to scented candles — if you’re wanting an uplifting mood, try candles with citrus and fruit; if you’re after something more mellow, look for candles with vanilla or lavender notes; or if you feel like something luxuriously sweet, try caramel, fig and flowery scents. My favourite candle company is Glasshouse Fragrance, as the quality, range of scents and burn-time is incredible.
Use soft lighting
Lighting makes such a difference in the feel of a space — there’s nothing like a cold fluorescent ceiling light to kill a cozy mood. Add some floor or desk lamps with low-watt, warm-toned bulbs to create warmth and coziness. When the sun goes down, turn on your lamps, burn a candle and play a relaxing playlist to help ease you into a relaxing evening.
I hope these 5 tips are helpful in making your room a place where you can relax and refresh. Happy snuggling!
