Hallowed Grounds Espresso is a cosy, charismatic cafe with food that surpasses its homey interior and profoundly delights the eyes and tastebuds.
Hallowed Grounds is a cafe focused on creating comforting homestyle food with a modern, unique + nutritious flair. It’s a place you can indulge in a hearty breakfast or lunch, or opt for a healthy dish that is all the while full of flavour and downright satisfying.
The cafe is a welcoming respite from the busy street, with fresh flowers and the sound of the whirring coffee machine pleasantly inviting you in. The cafe itself is reminiscent of a kindhearted, eccentric grandma in all the right ways: warm, inviting and full of character. Vintage posters cover the walls and kitschy pillows perch on recycled wood benches and chairs. There’s even an old bed spring hanging from the ceiling from which hangs a vintage chandelier. The front counter abounds with freshly baked treats, and bright blooms adorn the entire cafe.
There is something on the all day breakfast menu to appeal to everyone, with vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options. Think Artisan fruit + nut sourdough with ginger marmalade or lemon curd; Feta scrambled eggs on Vienna sourdough, Savoury mince w/ poached egg + onion jam on sourdough; Macadamia + Cranberry granola with fresh berries + yogurt; Eggs Benny salad; Breaky Bowl w/ roast pumpkin, kale, haloumi + poached egg; plus more mouthwatering dishes.
This morning we ordered the Avocado on Toast Your Way and the Vegan Rainbow Stack, which were stunningly presented with vibrant colours and garnishes. We also got two delicious and generously-portioned juices: Cucumber, Apple + Mint and the fresh OJ. Both were fresh and tasty to match the beautiful, sunny morning we had.
The Smashed Avocado on toasted Vienna sourdough — with the addition of dukkah, poached eggs, cherry tomatoes and beetroot relish stacked on top — was a delicious dish packed with flavour. The fragrant dukkah paired wonderfully with the creamy, ripe avocado, while the fresh tomato and sweet beetroot relish rounded out the dish.
The Vegan Rainbow Stack was a sight to behold, with layers of smashed roast pumpkin, rocket, avocado, beetroot relish, cherry tomatoes + dukkah piled high atop a slice of crusty sourdough. The varying flavours and textures worked beautifully together, with each element complementing one another.
Hallowed Grounds Espresso boasts a strong commitment to producing high quality coffee, and this certainly showed in the coffees the kind staff brought out. The baristas at the cafe craft amazing coffees made from high grade beans and the latte art — like the rest of the cafe’s food presentation — is astounding.
With its impressive breakfasts, inviting interior, stunning food presentation and friendly service, Hallowed Grounds Espresso is a gem of a cafe dedicated to creating a cosy yet inspiring space full of delicious food that pleases all.
